I think it is clear how the top 3 on today’s ticket will go but I still wanted to give some commentary on it and also highlight some Delegate races as well.
GOVERNOR: Bob McDonnell (+15 points)
June’s primary made this happen. The primary yielded the weakest Democratic Candidate who took the summer off instead of campaigning. There were resources available that the Deeds campaign wouldn’t utilize that would have helped.
Lt Governor: Bill Bolling (+13 points)
This is a no brainer. Jody “the shrill” Wagner never should have ran. She abandoned her post when the economy took a turn for the worst. In all honesty I don’t think anyone cares enough about this race to even say more. Just be glad we don’t have to hear her voice for a while.
Attorney General: Ken Cuccinelli (+18 points)
This is the one that should scare the hell out of everyone in Virginia. Every minority group will be screwed over. We will set the Commonwealth back 200 years in social progress when he is elected. This guy has angry white man syndrome and will wreck havoc on anyone and everything in his path. He is will never see the middle on anything. He will take this win as a mandate (which it is not) and in his little head believe that he is ordained by the people to run his office to the right. Of the three highest offices in the state I think this is the one that you do not want on the right. Steve Shannon would have been a great Attorney General. Hell, Bob McDonnell was a great Attorney General. The only reason Steve Shannon will lose is because of the top of the ticket. Well, and because his campaign was pathetic. I thought he was sitting on all that money for a reason, lol.
House Races Of Interest: (BTW, I project a Republican pickup of 11 seats. It’s time for the Dems to elect a new chairman and fire Matt Mansell)
House District 1: Kilgore (R) unopposed: it’s sad that Ma Kilgore couldn’t go around and fix the election this year…maybe someone will run against him in two years. This family is like a criminal enterprise. It is time we shut it down.
House District 3: Dan Bowling (D) vs James Morefield (R): Where the hell did Morefield find a team to put those ads and web page together for so little cost? I think it rivals a presidential campaign. This guy for sure had the best messaging team. Okay, maybe not best messaging, but best production value (I am always a bit of a softy for soaring jets and eagles flying overhead set to patriotic music)…
House District 6: Anne B Crockett-Stark (R) vs A Carole Pratt (D): This is an interesting race that pisses me off. Carole Pratt is the one who spawned the creature that screwed up so many House of Delegates races, Matt Mansell. It’s kind of ironic that so many candidate’s were begging for money from the House Caucus and Matt gave mom over $93k.
House District 15: C. Todd Gilbert (R) vs John Lesinski (D): This is the race that Matt Mansell should lose his job over. Gilbert, the incumbent, is a moron! John Lesinksi, a moderate, was perfect for this district, if the House Caucus would have given some money. Maybe after today they will realize that the current logic sucks! Probably not though. Anyway, meet John Lesinski – the best Delegate candidate you’ll never know…
House District 21: Robert W Mathieson (D) vs Ronald A Villanueva (R): This should be a Republican pick up. Mathieson (who did not have his name spelled correctly on his website until we pointed out), deserves to lose. He is weak. I hope Wednesday someone starts asking questions about how much his Legislative Aide actually stole from his campaign, and why no action was taken before election day.
House District 31: H. Scott Linghamfelter (R): This bigot will be part of the Conservative Reich that will set the Commonwealth back 200 years. Someone please run against him in two years!!!
House District 42: David Albo (R) vs Gregory A Werkheiser (D): I doubt anyone enjoyed Dave’s wonderful abusive driver fees. Had the June primary put someone other than Deeds in the top seat maybe Werkheiser could win. I am still uncomfortable about the whole ACORN ties. I can appreciate community activism, but can’t tolerate abuse of the law. Werkheiser is a sketchy candidate with questionable ties who simply can’t be trusted.
House District 50: Jackson H Miller (R) vs Jeanette M Rishell (D): If elections was a sport in the special olympics these two would compete for sure. Neither one of them should be a candidate for anything. Jackson Miller is the cop who as kid obviously got picked on too much. He is an arrogant ass. His Legislative Aide was arrested for gay bashing in DC and still kept his job. Jeanette Rishell’s campaign manager loves her porn. I really can’t say enough about how stupid both of these people are. If you live in this District do a write in ballot or just skip it.
House District 53: James M Scott (D) vs Christopher Merola (R): If you did not live in this District and just got emails like a lot of people on the old McCain mailing list did, you would think that Merola was running this massive campaign and bringing in all these people from Fox News to help him win. I like people who think big, and this guy did that when he put this campaign together. I think he’ll pull it off.
House District 82: Bob Purkey (R) vs Peter Schmidt (D/R): There is an indy running here too but he is so insignificant I really didn’t want to give him the hit on Google. I like logic here. Peter Schmidt ran against Bob Purkey two years ago in a REPUBLICAN PRIMARY and lost now he is running as a Democrat with a strong chance (that is why I put a D/R next to his name). He is still a Republican, just embraced out of desperation from the DPVA. Incidentally Matt Mansell was nice enough to give him $14k for his race.
House District 83: Joseph Bouchard (D) vs Christopher Stolle (R): This is like dejavu. They ran against each other before. This time Stolle’s brother is also running for Sheriff. I think this will be a Republican pick up.
House District 93: Phillip A Hamilton (R) vs Robin Abbott (D): This was probably one of the biggest Democratic campaign blunders for a House race. Hamilton could go to jail. For sure he will not be in office in a year. There is a lot of bad press out there about him right now. Robin Abbott took the final weekend before the election off. If she loses…it’s her fault (although I really wish I could blame Matt Mansell on this one).
House District 98: Harvey B. Morgan (R): This guy is what a legislator should be. This ia traditional Republican district but a moderate candidate. His years in office has yielded him some power that he brings back home. I hope with his age he still has another 10 years in him.
To recap, I really believe that the Democrats created this nightmare. With Brian Moran or Terry Mcauliffe at the top of the Dem ticket, things would be different. Given the political realities and the potential liability of the President, neither Brian or Terry would have stood a good chance of winning. One thing is for sure, however — they wouldn’t be losing by 15 or more points. They wouldn’t have made it nearly impossible for down ticket Dems to win races. At the end of the day the only folks to blame here are the Dems themeselves. Just look at the party leadership – pathetic.
Congratulations on your election to Governor, Bob. Please try to keep a leash on that nut in the AG’s office, will you please?
